Staying Up

Postby gillsfan1066 » Tue Apr 18, 2017 11:40 pm

I think and hope and pray that Gillingham are going to be OK, and stay up. Coventry and Chesterfield are gone, Port Vale have a game in hand against Bolton who are going for 100 points,Fleetwood who might have been promoted by then and would love to run up the score in their last game in Division One then Walsall where they could pick up 3 , although it is an away game so I don't see them picking up more than maybe a point , but lets say they get 3 so I can not see them getting more than 48 points at best, they GONE, so that leaves us with............................
Bury siting on 47 points there not going to pick up any from Southend ( I hope) although after the Bolton show, who knows, so lets say that leaves them at best they could get 3 from Nthmptn, but my bet is they get a draw there so that would leave them with 48 points , at best 50.
Shrewsbury home to Southend who are playing for their promotion lives and Oxford away, maybe a point or perhaps 3 they could end up with 51 on the season?
Gillingham who I think will pick up a point at Northampton, so they end up with 50
Oldham who could get 3 at Wimbledon, so I think they end up with 54 points, so .......Coventry, Chstfld. Port Vale are gone, and Bury and Gillingham who play Nthmpton on that day, and Bury have Southend who will be fighting for that 7 th play off spot so in theory Gillingham stays up ??

I can see us winning against Fleetwood and everyone celebrating "survival" on 52 points but the other teams winning also. Fans will run on the pitch like in 2010 without any thought that defeat against Northampton on the final day could see us go down. Sound familiar?

I have been having nightmares about this Nthmptn game for weeks, I would love us to get three points against Fleetwood , but I think there is more chance they score double figures in the goal dept. than we win, we really are a pretty dam bad team.

It does wind me up all these people going on about the "50 point mark" like it's some sort of magical number that makes it impossible to get relegated on. If you won the first 17 games you get to 51 points leaving a further 29 which can be lost. The most that can be lost by any team this season is 27 so losing these games would mean sides below you pick up points and almost certainly see relegation. THAT's the key, how many points is accrued by the bottom 4 NOT how many the one who finishes 5th gets.

That said I think a point on Saturday is likely and we will be safe but this is the Gills, we KNOW how these things happen!!!

OK grumpy, you have to have some sort of watermark to judge things by, pretty good bet if you can get 50 points or more than you will probably stay up, get over 90 points and it's a pretty good bet you will go up as champions, get over 75 and your probably going to be in the play offs, so WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM WITH 50POINTS MR.GRUMPY, lol ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
