Season tickets

Postby lidbid46 » Wed Mar 29, 2017 12:56 pm

So I've just looked at the new information about season tickets for next year. If I have got this right, I can renew my seat for £375 for one year, or £700 for two. That would save me £25 and give me the honour of lending Gills £350 for a year. Wow, what am I waiting for? Honestly, where is the incentive to renew? My seat will cost me more than this year and I haven't felt like I've been getting value for money this season! For the first time in a long time, I am seriously considering not bothering and just picking and choosing games that I feel like attending.

Considering we don't even know which division were going to be in, I can only imagine a few fans who really, really hate being home with their wives and kids would buy season tickets for two years, well and of course Ms Fanny Mulligan, 700 quid seems a lot of money to pay out to save 25, I could understand it if say they sold a two year season ticket for 500 or 550, then it would be worth it.

That actually works out at £25 per year, £50 over the 2 years, and could be more if prices rise in the second year.
I'm not suggesting it's a good deal even then, but to earn £25 on £350 saved would need interest above 7%.
Everyone needs to look at the deal and decide based on their own circumstances.

It's not just the cost, it's the lack of incentives such as vouchers for cheap extra tickets etc. In fact, with all the offers that crop up for non season ticket holders during the season I can't see what we gain really. I know I get to always sit in the same seat, but I'm sure I will be able to sit there or nearby for most games anyway. I think it's being made to pay for the JT cup and league cup games when we get a crowd of just over a thousand that annoys me more than anything.

I've never been a season ticket holder but when I see people saying that the deals for under 12s have been removed and now is cheaper to buy on the day, you really have to question what the club are thinking! Every year people moan but this time it actually appears to be worse to be a season ticket holder. For a while now the "freebies" for ST holders have been poor unless they have family members who they would normally pay to attend games infrequently but that's it. Even the deals in the Brian Moore stand cease so we won't even be seeing extra bums on seats there. Gates will be down even if we stay up but revenue will be OK because of the increases - daft.

Well I have been an enthusiastic and loyal supporter for years now and have hardly missed a home game with a fair few away games to add when my son was younger. I used to start getting excited during the week, reading everything I could and thinking about the the game. Saturday morning I wouldn't do anything in case I didn't have time to get ready. Getting my Gills gear and scarf etc ready always amused/ annoyed my wife and daughter as I debated how many layers I would need to keep out the wind. Then we'd leave at 1:15, even though that meant we were parked by 1:45! Into the ground early to watch the warm up, then the game and me singing and yelling until my voice went, much to the embarrassment of my teenage son. Chips on the way home; win, lose or draw generally content with the effort from the team at least and Joe and I dissecting the game on the way home. Then set the Sky box to record the Football league show to watch the 20second highlight package over and over again to work out how we scored or conceded. Now I sometimes don't even remember who we're playing, I moan about having to get ready; indeed fro the last Tuesday night game I forgot I was supposed to be going until Mrs L got home from work! I still try to sing during he game, but it's hard when no one else does. I don't really feel excited, just sort of resigned and going to games seems to have become a habit. I'm sure Gillsfan will put it down to my age, which may have something to do with it, but if it has just become something I do because I always have done, taking away any incentives and increasing the price of my ST may just be the trigger I need to make me break the habit. I'm sure I will still go to games, but I think it will be better for me to pick which to go to rather than feeling that I have o go to them all. It's a sad feeling, but also there will be a little feeling of relief as well.

I see the anger this provoked has caused some form of retraction from the club judging by this part of the statement sent out this afternoon:

The changes we had proposed for under-12 season tickets were made on the basis of a number of new initiatives we are introducing next season which may conflict. However I do take the point made by some current season ticket holders that our changes could also disadvantage sales of that particular sector, so we are now proceeding on the following basis, with immediate effect:

1. We will keep under-18 season tickets at the reduced price of £140 for early bird renewals.

2. We will now offer the same under-18 prices to all students, subject to the provision of a current and valid NUS card or similar with photo ID.
One season ticket per student, subject to availability.

3. For all supporters who currently have under-12s season tickets this season, we will honour these renewals at £35 during our early bird period and £50 thereafter.
This will be for the 2017/18 season only, after which this offer may be reviewed. The voucher allowing two free adult tickets included in this current price will be removed; this was clearly an anomaly that has now been corrected.

4. Any supporters who wish to purchase under-12 season tickets for next season who do not currently have one may do so after Tuesday, May 2 at the rate of £50 per ticket, subject to availability.
One under-12 per adult season ticket; no under-12 season tickets will be sold separately.

5. We will keep the offer of one free under-12 matchday ticket for each adult seat purchased in specific areas, subject to availability.

6. The deadline for early bird promotion will be extended to 1pm on Saturday, April 29.

7. Early bird purchases are now available to ALL supporters who wish to buy season tickets, irrespective of whether they have previously had season tickets or not.

That's all well and good, but once again nothing to help a fan like me who doesn't want all those junior incentives. How about something for us?
