Gillingham will face West Bromwich Albion’s academy side in the EFL Trophy.

The Gills will also be up against Millwall and Luton in the opening round group stage of the rehashed competition.

I wish the club all the best in all the matches, but personally wont be going to any Trophy games until B Teams are taken out.I really hope this will be for one season only.I thought they wanted us to play less games as well, but group matches etc just adds more games to the season. It`s a shame that they have ruined this tournament,as I enjoyed going to the JPT matches.

Are these 90 minute games, and a point each if it's a draw, or do they play extra time and then go to pen shoot out ? I guess a decent crowd against Millwall but as for WBA or Luton, can not see people lining up to see those games.

Yes Chicago for an extra point. We really have the short straw in this! Our only home game is against the "easiest" team in the group and we are the only team to have to play at the Hawthorns. Millwall along with Luton have 2 home ties and 1 away. Silly idea.

I really have no interest in this. I'd prefer to see the Gills blooding their fringe players and bringing back their injured players in these games.

Yep. it's a real apology for a competition now. Worthless, pointless, useless.

Funny thing is , I bet in a year or two when we draw Manchester United B squad at home, and they have George Best and Denis Law playing ,recovering from mild knocks from the week before against Spurs , and we have 2nd Division Dover away, we will all think it's a great idea, lol.
