Gills announce retained list

Postby Garawa » Wed May 11, 2016 12:44 pm

Players not returning to Priestfield in a Gills shirt next season are:

Doug Loft
Brennan Dickenson
Jermaine McGlashan
Glenn Morris

Players offered new contracts are:

Stuart Nelson
John Egan
Aaron Morris
Josh Wright
Emmanuel Osadebe
Elliott List
Mitchell Dickenson
Darren Oldaker
- Offered a first professional contract

Bit surprised about Dickenson in the let go list but no real surprises from how players have been used this season. That said they are big players to replace considering we need a larger squad next season. Good that A. Morris and Wright have been offered new deals as a midfield without them seems non-existent and both have been very good this season. Like always no guarantee they will sign a new deal so now the painful waiting game!

I thought Loft may have got another year because of his experience,I`m surprised Dickenson was released as he had a decent season, and had a great delivery.I suppose the decision to play a half fit Garmston lately ahead of him shows he wasn`t rated as much as we thought.McGlashan was always likely to go with him being a bit part player,we don`t really play with wingers and he hasn`t played many games.Glenn Morris never played so I expected him to go.

Egan has probably only been offered a deal so we can get compensation at a tribunal,we have had an offer on the table for ages it seems.Dickenson,List, and Oldaker all seem bright prospects so are worth a year deal.Aaron Morris is really versatile, and has performed really well this season so i`m glad he has been offered a new deal.Osadebe as well looks a good player, and will get better.Wright has shown great passion for the club,he has had some really good games with his composure so for me fully deserves his new deal, the same for Nelson who 98% of the season has been excellent.

My Thoughts On The Players Released...........

1. Glenn Morris - I want to thank Glenn Morris for being an consistent back up goalkeeper for Gillingham over the past two season's, there was a time where Gillingham went through six goalkeepers in one season, and we haven't done that recently because we have had two very experienced goalkeepers on the books, right decision but sad decision to let Glenn Morris go, it is also the right decision for Glenn Morris, because he needs to be an first choice goalkeeper at another football club.

But another reason why Glenn Morris has left, is so that Tom Hadler can be promoted to Gillingham's Understudy Goalkeeper Next Season, and I rate Tom Hadler very highly, because every-time I have seen Tom Hadler play for Gillingham, or when I have read reports from The Development Squad, Tom Hadler's name always comes up in a positive manner.

2. Jermaine McGlashan - Played the role of Super Sub during The 2014 / 2015 season but just couldn't re-capture that tag-line this season, a change in systems to the diamond midfield formation and three in defence meant that Jermaine McGlashan had to play out of position to play in Gillingham's Starting Line Up.

3. Doug Loft - High wages combined with the limited game-time does explain why Doug Loft has been released, constant Achilles injuries have restricted the time that Doug Loft has spent on the pitch in A Gillingham Shirt, and Doug Loft still made sixty two appearances for Gillingham over the past two season's, just a shame that our Captain couldn't get himself fit, because when Doug Loft was fully fit and available for selection, we saw the qualities he possess.

4. Brennan Dickenson - Every Summer there is one player who gets released who you think should of stayed at the club, this year it is Brennan Dickenson, because Brennan Dickenson was the youngest of the four players released, he had great pace, athleticism, he could drive forward and whip in some sensational low crosses and he was perfect for The Left Wing Back Role, OK Defensively he had a few problems, but you could play Brennan Dickenson at Left Back, Left Wing Back, Left Winger or Left Striker, he was young, quick, versatile and had plenty of room for development as well - I am genuinely gutted that Brennan Dickenson has been released and I would of kept him at Gillingham.

I want to wish all four players all the best for the future, and thank them for there services to Gillingham Football Club over the past two season's.
