The plan is for a ground to be built just east of Yokosuka Way at a site called Mill Hill opposite the training ground. Currently the club has no planning permission submitted for a site but all local councils are currently undertaking "Local Plans" or "Draft Core Strategies" to determine land that can be allocated for development to fullfill the government's quota of new housing. Effectively these large consultations if passed (and there would be severe consequences if they wasn't) will give a green light to develop plots of land whilst giving a solid reason to refuse permission for any site not on the plan. Where I live, should all parts of the plan be passed, then an area of countryside to the rear of my property will be allocated for housing and plans already exist to develop it. No planning permission has been submitted for this however as it could be refused and then months later be given a green light for development! These plots effectively provide a space for developers should they wish to use them (they may not and remain agricultural land in my instance)!
Medway council actually go one further and not only mention the plot of land as suitable for sports use but actually promote it for being used as the clubs new stadium! The club could put an application in now and it would likely go to committee as there is a lot of antipathy towards the new ground. If we were to fail we could be left with no options. However these local plans WILL go through, each are tasked with providing these spaces for much needed housing and sports for people to use comes high on the agenda along with employment space for the people moving there (daft I know but it is a criteria). The club have been criticised for lack of noise about this but I think they are biding their time. Wait for the plan to be passed and the public will have little to no say about the new stadium so when the planning application is submitted, it SHOULD adhere to whatever was required in the local plan and any complaints or anger towards it will be ignored.
You can read what the council say about the site on page 1 of this document (page appears a couple of pages down)!!!
