[ 11 Nov 25 ] GILLS v Wycombe W Match Thread (EFLT, G3)

Postby Garawa » Wed Oct 29, 2025 8:34 pm

- The results are very close between Wycombe and the Gills with the Gills leading the wins 10 to 9 with a further 9 meetings ending in draws. Both sides have won 1 of the last 3 meetings, 2 of the last 6 and 3 of the last 8.
- Wycombe last won at Priestfield back in February 2013. The Gills are unbeaten at home in the last 3 meetings but have managed 1 win (and lost twice) in the last 5 home games against Wanderers.
- Wycombe started the season with just 1 win in their first 9 games - a win in the Carabao Cup and their only win in 14 league and cup games during which they lost 9 times. They have won 8 of their last 13 and lost just 1 of the last 11 going unbeaten in the last 8.
- After 4 consecutive league and cup games at home (3 wins and a draw), Wycombe play away where they are unbeaten in 2. In all league and cup games on the road, they lost 3 of the 4 before them.
- Since the introduction of the group phase in this competition, after winning their final group match in the first 4 seasons, the Gills have not won the final game in the previous 5 seasons (although 2 of the draws ended with the Gills winning the shootout).
- The Gills have only progressed out of the revamped EFL Trophy's group phase in 2 of the 9 seasons, the last being in the 2020/1 campaign.

[Tue 11th November 2025] EFL Bristol Street Motors Trophy - Southern Section Group G, Match 3: Gillingham FC v Wycombe Wanderers
Opposition Manager: Michael Duff Matchday Team: Stuart Moore, Arthur Gregory, Connor Taylor, Jack Matton (Dan Casey), Fin Back (Niall Huggins), [c] Caolan Boyd-Munce, Magnus Westergaard, Donnell McNeilly (James Tilley), Alex Lowry (Mekhi Savage), Armando Junior Quitirna, Bradley Fink (Cameron Stones)

Attendance:

(19.01) Kick Off [ 3 - 4 - 1 - 2 ]
(19.09) GOAL! Gillingham 0-1 Wycombe Wanderers: Lowry
(19.11) Fantastic block somehow denies the visitors a second. The Gills half clear with Holtam on the ground and the follow up flashes just over the bar.
(19.24) Wyllie forces the keeper into a good save, albeit a little straight at him. The Gills keep the pressure on and win a free kick on the edge of the box.
(19.46) A minimum of 1 minute is added.
(19.47) A Wycombe corner is floated to the far post. It looks almost to have gone in direct but misses the post and is hooked back into the mix off the byline and Holtam gathers.
(19:47) Half time 0-1 [46:14]

(20.03) The second half kicks off.
(20.04) A lovely back heel plays in Rowe who, after a bit of luck, smashes a shot off the left hand post.
(20.13) Good shot from Lowry and good watching from Holtam to make the save.
(20.19) GOAL! Gillingham 0-2 Wycombe Wanderers: Matton
(20.21) A quick Wycombe counter pulls the ball across the face of goal. It is perfectly weighted for an attacker to slot home but he flashes it across the face of goal and behind.
(20.41) GOAL! Gillingham 0-3 Wycombe Wanderers: Fink
(20.45) A good run from Stan Sargent sees his effort go across goal, missing the goalkeeper and narrowly missing the far post.
(20.48) The fourth official signals for a minimum of 6 additional minutes.
(20.50) A clever worked Gills free kick is nodded back to Akomeah who side foots over. On target and its likely to be in.
(20.54) FULL TIME 0-3 [97:15] - Gills finish 3rd

Other group game - Colchester United 2-0 Fulham U21s
