Hereford a team that went bankrupt and played Newcastle in 1972, hahaha, that was like 50 years ago, hell I bet half the people that go to Gills games wee not even born then and the other half who were are now suffering from " Old Timers Disease" and have forgotten the game . Gillingham GREAT, oh dear thats a stretch, come on Big G there not great , never have been in a 100+ years. It's 2019 almost 2020, not 1972 , are you still driving an Austin 1100 with an H registration and is the average laborers wage in England around $32 quid a week ??
Just think a few short years ago we were playing Brighton, there sponsorship deals this year are worth over 3.5 million pounds , our last sponsorship deal with Medway City Council didn't get us a single penny, we got to use the park district facilities for free, wwoooww hhoo ,who drove that hard bargain on behalf of THE GILLS, lol. Just out of interest Arsenals sponsorship deals are worth over SIXTY MILLION pounds a year. Stadium naming does not bring much into the coffers, most seem to change sponsors fairly regularly, mainly because people who go to Gillingham games will always call Priestfield Stadium ,Priestfield ,even when it's been re-christened DUREX STADIUM, where every seat is covered in ribbed rubber for pure comfort and safety.
The year 2020 is just around the corner,NOW is the time for Gillingham FC to become leaders in the field of soccer in the UK, a ten year sponsorship deal with Red Bull or P&O Ferries (there profits were up 22% last year) to rename GFC, RED BULL UNITED or P&O FERRIES ALBION (by the way an Albion is an old english word for Briton or white, eg The White Cliffs of Dover ) , lets say for a measly 100 million spread over 10 years, payable in say three instalments, year one, year three and year five, don't tell me even Evans could not buy us our way into the top half of the Championship Division
Times are changing it's not like the name Gillingham Football Club has done us a lot of good over the last hundred and whatever years, bit like saying the Luck of the Irish, jezz talk about an unlucky nation, so maybe a change of name to Coca Cola Rovers might change our luck , assuming Scally doesn't pocket 95% of the money that is, lol ??
