So Parrett and Rees have been told they won't feature for the new manager and have refused to take offers from "another league club and a non-league club". I would imagine these were a League 2 club for Parrett and a non-league club for Rees. I can't imagine either club would pay a fee for them and I would expect this would result in a pay cut. If so, they are being cast out for refusing to take a pay cut having worked out their house-hold budgets based on an agreed wage for 2 years. If I am right, then the only winner here would be the receiving club and us, who would get 2 players off the wage bill for free. The players suddenly find themselves with less money.
Both were offered 2 year deals and have chosen to honour their contracts which seems to have annoyed some fans and the manager. The question is, what point is a contract if we simply expect them to rip it up at our request? Also, if a player refused to play because he wanted a better deal elsewhere he would (rightly) get slated. The best way forward I think would have been a season-long loan where we pay half their wages. They get to promote themselves, keep their wages in full and we save a chunk of salary. As it is, both look likely to descend into obscurity for a year whilst we pay full wages for players who the manager says he won't use.
It's all a bit unsavoury.
