Gills in profit.

Postby Garawa » Mon Mar 14, 2016 3:15 pm

According to Kent Online, the Gills made a decent profit last season thanks largely to player transfer dealings including former players moving on. Interestingly player wages were down largely due to having more younger players which is good in my book. Many will moan about lack of investment and we can't simply blow it as soon as we get it especially when we owe 1.8m in directors loans but it does suggest we are going the right way. All we need is to pack the ground out a bit more so we can invest more and we could be a force in this division. Too much apathy suggests otherwise though. If you get 5600 in when just of the autos against a struggling team when you are planning to take 2000 to the next away game it probably won't happen. Given that the Good Friday game (likely to have been a big crowd) has gone that is even more disappointing.

It`s good to see we`re in profit, but still shocked our attendances are getting lower each game.I thought 6,200 was low,but we were in the low 5,000`s on Saturday which is what you would expect us to get in league 2 as a struggling side.I would hope now the warmer months are coming we will get 7,000+.

Why we will never amount to anywhere near where we hope to be. Unless every game is a huge one as it would be if we went up but the infrastructure won't have been put in place before hand due to lower attendances.

WWOOWWHHHOOO, were in profit , YEAH, more money for Scally, wwooww hhoooo, and look were down to FOURTH with SEVEN tough games against teams that will be pushing hard for a spot in the play offs, and only three games against Bury, Rochdale, and The Shrews who's seasons are over .
Were sitting pretty, basically "three wins" in front of 8th place Coventry, but in the last 7 games we have only scored 8 goals and one of those was an OG and we have conceded 7 ,we have a hat full of injurys and we have only bought in one player on loan this week ??
Our gates have gone down over the last few games probably because the guy who goes to ten home games a season with his son doesn't want to go and watch games against Crewe and Chesterfield, he is saving his money for the Coventry and Millwall games , plus seriously how many Crewe and Chst'fld supporters came to Gillingham to watch the rubbish those teams are dishing up this season ?? I bet we get over 7,500 for the last three home games of the season.
We need AT LEAST ONE IF NOT TWO GOAL SCORING FORWARDS to come in on loan for the next four or five games to ensure we get the points needed to be in the play off's, when our own goal scoring phenoms will back and healthy.
It would be a travesty for GFC to get pipped at the post by a Coventry, Barnsley or dam Port Vale, then to be told it was a successful season, we made a run at promotion, which we will build on over the summer for the 2016/17 season, the club made a profit and we paid off some of the 1.8 millions pounds owed to directors, that for me would really be the last straw.

GFC is a cash cow for one man. Why would he want to risk anything ? Surely we all accepted long ago that this is simply a solus business opportunity not a desire for football success and achievement.
As I've said many times before there's little point moaning about crowds when you do absolutely nothing to develop the'customer proposition. Poor location, high prices, virtually no marketing spend.
I'm a long standing fan of the club; they have all my contact details on file, they know i'm not averse to splashing out occasionally - £250 on a VIP ticket for GFC v Shrewsbury as an example. Yet I have never received a single piece of marketing communications from them. And when I contact them it's hardly the customer experience of a lifetime !!!

I kind of disagree about the location of the ground, it's a 10 maybe 15 minute walk from the railway station and the town center and there must be a ton of free parking within half a mile in any number of streets, so I don't think the ground location is a big deal.
We took 35,000 to Wembley, that number still to this day staggers me,yet we can only get 5000+ to games and why , BECAUSE WERE A THIRD DIVISION TEAM, playing the same old , same old clubs we have been playing since the 1960's were bogged down, stuck in a rut, .like Mr Lidbits favorite song, STUCK IN THE 60's Tonight , by Ronnie Milsap.
Wwooww hhoo here comes Crewe, and Colchester, and Port Vale, Southend , Pet'brgh, maybe it is time to amalgamate the 1 st and 2nd division and have it as a North and South ?
Gillingham NEED to get promoted this year, then the owner has to give Glasgow or who ever all the tools they need to get in and stay in the Championship, the fans of GFC deserve that, they deserve better than what they are being served up now, third division football.

Parking is a bloody nightmare !! Old fashioned location in the middle of rows of terraced houses without enough parking for residents cars.

Haha times have changed since I was there , lol. We used to park up off Livingstone Road or Barnsole Road, but then again we didn't have Japanese named roads like Yokosuka Way, where did that name come from.??
Across the railway tracks down Woodlands Road there is a large empty grass area where the Badminton Club is on the North Side, couldn't a few hundred cars park there on a game day for say a couple of quid per car, that would make someone some money, who's land is that ??
I don't see a lot of parking around Arsenals or Manchester U's stadium, and I remember having a hell of a job parking at West Ham's ground one evening back in the day ,but they all seemed to have done OK.
I know Cuxton or somewhere was discussed for a new stadium at one time, where in Gillingham has ever been discussed, there doesn't seem to be a lot of room anywhere, and I am sure most people don't wan't a footie stadium at the end of their street, so where do the fans want the new stadium built ??
