[ 13 Feb 24 ] GILLS v Swindon Town Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Thu Feb 08, 2024 10:28 pm

- There is very little difference in the quantity of all 3 results between the Gills and Swindon. 32 meetings have been drawn whilst the Gills have won 35 and Swindon 36. The Gills are unbeaten in the last 5 matches since last losing to Swindon in February 2017.
- Swindon's last 5 visits to the Gills have seen them draw 4 of them and they are winless in 11 trips (losing 6 of them) since their last victory at Priestfield back in December 1986.
- Swindon started the season unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions. Since then, they have won just 5 and suffered 16 defeats in the 25 league and cup games including 7 from last 11.
- Swindon have endured 5 successive away defeats in the league since winning 4-3 at Accrington and they have lost 7 of their last 9 on the road. Their 37 away goals conceded is the joint highest in League 2 and is 1 more than the Gills conceded home and away.
- Swindon have conceded the most second half goals in League 2 (39), a whopping 20 more than the Gills. However, since conceding 15 goals after the break in just 6 league games, they have let in 11 in their last 10 games. The Gills 17 scored is the lowest in the division.
- The Gills have conceded 36 goals in League 2. Swindon Town have conceded 39 in their last 19 league matches during which time they have kept just 1 clean sheet.

(19:47) EFL Sky Bet League 2: Gillingham FC vs Swindon Town - Kick Off [ 5 - 3 - 2 ]

(20.07) Hutton curls a left footed cross shot which hangs at the far post and the 'keeper has to tipped over. The resulting corner is headed just wide for another corner.

(20.10) Masterson volleys in brilliantly but the goal is ruled out for offside.

(20.11) GOAL! Gillingham 0-1 Swindon Town: McGurk

(20.24) A Swindon shot is blasted at pace just over the bar.

(20.29) Hawkins heads on. Walker collects but he can't keep it down and the keeper makes some contact. Neither has full control and Walker tries to head into the net from 3 yards out but the keeper just beats him to it.

(20.32) The referee adds on 1 additional minute.

(20.33) Swindon break into the box and and attacker rounds Turner and has the goal empty to tap home but Ogie comes in and blocks incredibly and Turner collects as the ball trickles towards the goal. Ogie limps off.

(20.36) Half time 0-1

(20.53) The second half kicks off.

(21.09) Masterson heads off the underside of the bar and the ball bounces onto the goal-line. The Gills players appeal saying it crossed the line but the ref felt it didn't.

(21.09) Swindon slot the ball under Turner but Hutton gets back to hack brilliantly off the line.

(21.16) GOAL! Gillingham 1-1 Swindon Town: Hawkins

(21.23) Ehmer this time makes another critical goal-line clearance and ends up in the net.

(21.26) Penalty! Hurtado goes on a mazy run and makes his way into the box where he is brought down.

(21.27) GOAL! Gillingham 2-1 Swindon Town: Mahoney (pen)

(21.34) The Gills have another goal ruled out for offside and it's Masterson again!

(21.35) Swindon have a corner which is headed unchallenged straight at Turner and either side of him would have surely been an equaliser.

(21.39) The ref adds on 6 additional minutes.

(21.42) GOAL! Gillingham 2-2 Swindon Town: McGirdy

(21.44) A Gills corner flashes in and a glancing header puts the ball wide.

(21.46) Another Gills corner is heading for the top corner but somehow the keeper brilliantly tips it over just as the full time whistle goes.
