- Portsmouth lead the wins by a massive 22 wins to the Gills' 9. The Gills are winless in 6 against them home and away, losing 3 of the last 4, and last won at Fratton Park in October 2018 where they have since drawn 2 and lost once.
- Portsmouth are unbeaten at home in 14 league and cup games, winning the last 4. The Gills are looking for their first win on the road in 4 away games after losing all 4.
- Portsmouth are unbeaten all season in league and cup games and their only taste of defeat this season was a 5-4 shootout defeat to Peterborough in the League Cup after a 1-1 draw. This makes it 26 league and cup games without a defeat with 6 wins out of the last 7.
- Since the revamp of the competition, the Gills have only previously played 8 away games in the 7 years of the new group stage and have lost 5 of them, failing to score in 4 of those 5. The 3 wins saw victories over West Brom U23s and Colchester United (twice).
- The Gills won their opening group match against Leyton Orient. In the 7 years of the new group stages, only the 2017/18 season saw the Gills secure more than 1 outright win (not a penalty shootout win) over the 3 group games - a season in which they won all 3 games.
