- Leyton Orient just edge the wins over the Gills by 28 league and cup victories to 27 with a further 18 meetings ending level. Since losing all 3 games to Orient in the 2013/14 season, the Gills have won 4 of the 6 meetings with the wins coming in the 4 games played at Priestfield.
- Leyton Orient enjoyed 27 league and cup wins on their way to promotion last season. Including 2 games at the end of last season, they have since lost 6 of their last 9 games and won just 1.
- The Gills won and drew their 2 home matches in this competition last season after losing both home games the season before. The Gills have won 7, drawn 3 and lost 5 of their home games since the Under-23 academy group stages were introduced.
- The various versions of the Football League Trophy have seen the Gills win 18, drawn 15 and lost 16 of their home games. The introduction of the group stage in the last 7 seasons have seen just 1 clean sheet in the 15 games (against Tottenham U23s) and 25 goals conceded.

(19.25) Morris makes a good save from Forde to prevent the visitors from taking the lead.

(19.45) Moncur strikes the post and the ball hits the back of Morris who, despite scrambling back, was still unable to prevent it crossing the line.
