Postby Garawa » Fri Jul 28, 2023 7:38 pm

- Before the season started, the Gills had met Accrington, Sutton and Crawley a combined total of 35 times. Against Colchester, the Gills have won 31 of the meetings whilst Colchester have won 30 and a further 27 were drawn.
- The Gills and Colchester have each won 1 of the last 3 meetings between the sides and have both won 2 of the last 5. From the last 11 league and cup games, the Gill have won 5 and lost 3 however at Priestfield, they have won just 1 (Dec 2015) of the last 9.
- Colchester's January transfer dealings sent them on an 8-game unbeaten run in March and April which included 3 wins in 4 games in mid-April. They ended the season with 2 defeats meaning Colchester have lost 5 consecutive league games. The Gills have won their last 5.
- Although they have played a game less, Colchester are the only side in League 2 yet to score a second half goal. They have, however, conceded 5 which is the worst second half goal difference in League 2.
- Despite playing a game less, Colchester's 4 leads conceded before kick off was the joint highest in the division. However, on average, each lead has lasted just 17.8 minutes which is the shortest time behind in League 2.

(15:01) EFL Sky Bet League 2: Gillingham FC v Colchester Utd - Kick Off [ 4 - 1 - 3 - 2 ]

(15.07) Dieng has a strong header well parried away from a Gills corner. Play is halted straight after and from the drop ball he has another header just wide of goal.

(15.10) New signing Mahoney twists and turns using both feet and hits a shot just over the bar.

(15.18) A Colchester attack (Taylor) breaks through quickly and into the Gills box. A nudge from Alexander and he goes down but no penalty is given and he is booked.

(15.22) Colchester shoot from a tight angle but it's well saved by Turner.

(15.28) Taylor, on a yellow, pulls down Ogie on the edge of the Gills box but no second yellow is shown.

(15.31) Colchester play the ball about in their own box. Nadesan latches onto it but can't quite get on the ball and somehow it is cleared under a lot of pressure.

(15.32) Colchester play the ball around the Gills box. Gills defend well and Turner produces a good save.

(16. 46) The referee adds on 3 additional minutes.

(16.49) Half time 0-0

(16.05) The second half kicks off.

(16.06) It has been all Gills since the restart, taping the ball around the Colchester box quickly. A cutback is behind a Gills player which would have likely resulted in a goal.

(16.10) On the edge of the Gills box, Ogie in possession is wrestled to the ground from behind by Taylor who, again, escapes a second yellow and is subbed shortly after.

(16.23) Colchester's quick counter-attack puts an attacker through on goal. From behind, Shaun Williams brilliantly clears fir a corner. It is delivered and looks to have drifted out but Turner is judged to have touched it for another corner. The corner results in a few rebounded blocked shots before they score.

(16.24) GOAL! Gillingham 0-1 Colchester United: Kelleher

(16.26) Colchester have another good chance but the Gills defence desperately clear.

(16.33) Bonne has a header which looks like it may hit the post or just creep inside but it is acrobatically saved for a corner.

(16.36) GOAL! Gillingham 0-2 Colchester United: Tovide

(16.42) GOAL! Gillingham 0-3 Colchester United: Ihionvien

(16.46) Red Card! Ethan Coleman is sent off with a straight red.

(16.50) The referee adds on 9 additional minutes.

Summer holidays Gillsfan and 2 games a week make it very difficult to keep up so I am preparing before it all kicks off! The lucky league results may also get a little delayed if internet is poor as I will be away for a few days.
