Postby Garawa » Tue Apr 18, 2023 8:08 pm

- This is only the third meeting between the sides. Newport drew at Priestfield in the League Cup back in 2019 before winning on penalties. The reverse fixture at Newport ended in a 0-2 defeat.
- Newport have won 4 of the last 8 games with each win coming either side of a draw or a loss. They won their game on Saturday before losing at home to Harrogate on Tuesday (a sequence of W, L, W, L, W, L over the last 6 games). Those 4 wins are the only ones in their last 13 games.
- Newport have won 3 and lost 4 of their last 12 home league games but on their travels, they have won 4 of their last 9 away games including a 3-1 win in their last away game at Doncaster last Saturday.
- Of all League 2 sides, Newport's defence fail to prevent the most shots from being converted. The shots on target taken by their league opponents have seen 37.6% of them scored, the highest total in the division.
- Newport have scored 49 goals and conceded 53 in League 2. 37.6% of their goals gave them a lead, the lowest total in the division whilst 60.4% of the goals conceded gave their opponents a lead, the highest total in League 2.
- Newport sit in 14th, one place ahead of the Gills. They have been ahead in League 2 for 49 minutes more than the Gills however they have been behind for 250 minutes more.

(15:02) Kick Off [ 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 ]

(15.10) A Newport cross is headed off the line by Coleman and just over the bar for a corner from which County score from.

(15.10) GOAL! Gillingham 0-1 Newport County: Norman

(15.17) Lapslie back heels a pass to Dieng in the penalty area but it's tapped away off his toes just as he's about to shoot for a throw. The Gills then win a corner as the throw is cleared.

(15.18) Penalty! As the corner comes in, Nichols is fouled in the box and he takes the penalty himself.

(15.19) GOAL! Gillingham 1-1 Newport County: Nichols (pen)

(15.31) Nichols outstretched foot gets enough to deflect the ball goalward and force the 'keeper into a good save.

(15.35) Nichols sends a pass through the legs to Dieng who crosses for Jefferies in a great position. He shoots and it goes narrowly wide but it took a deflection for a corner.

(15.39) A fierce Newport drive is punched with both fists by Morris who concedes a corner.

(15.41) Newport get a shot away through several legs which is somehow saved and could have gone anywhere.

(15.45) A Gills corner is cleared off the line but the whistle goes for offside.

(15.51) Newport shoot just wide but it was deflected and a corner is awarded.

(15.52) Right at the end of the half the Gills give away a cheap free kick right on the right hand edge of the box but it comes to nothing.

(16.09) The second half kicks off.

(16.25) Bogle cuts the ball back for what should be a simple Newport tap-in but Masterson is there to throw his body in the way at the expense of a corner.
