- This is the 4th time in the last 6 seasons in which the Gills have faced Colchester in the group stages of this competition. The previous 3 matches saw 2 away wins by a 1-0 scoreline and a 2-3 defeat at Priestfield.
- In all competitions, Colchester had won 1 and lost 6 out of 9 games before successive 2-1 home wins in their last 2 matches.

(19.58) After the visitors (below the Gills in League 2) started brightly, it is the Gills with the first big chance. Alexander crosses but Mandron can't prevent his header going just wide.
