- Sunderland have won 7 of the 14 meetings whilst the Gills have won 3 of them, 2 of which occurred last season.
- The Gills won 2 home ties with Sunderland 1-0 last season. It followed 1-4, 0-4 and 1-3 defeats from the early 21st Century which came after a 0-0 draw and a 3-2 win in 1987.
- Sunderland have faced just 21 shots on target, the fewest in the division. It is more than half the number the Gills have faced (44) and only Wigan had conceded more (46).
- Sunderland started the season with 6 wins and 3 draws from their opening 9 matches. Their most recent two games have seen a home defeat to Portsmouth and a draw at Rochdale.
- Sunderland's 2-2 at Rochdale ended a run of 3 successive away clean sheets. Along with Hull and Charlton, these 3 clean sheets is the best total in the division whilst the Gills 3 home blank sheets is the worst total in the division (along with Northampton).
- Sunderland have only conceded 2 goals in their 4 away league matches, the joint best total in the division, and both came in their last match at Rochdale. They are the only side yet to fall behind on their travels.

Hang on in there you Gills, more fouls than anything in this match, but a draw would be nice, a win would be great. I am off to play golf at Olympia Fields which is the Wembley of Chicago, they played the US Open there a few years ago, so had to put my best bib and tucker on just to get in the gate. Going to be sunny, and in the 60's today, Summer is here again...GO GILLS. OH great ,I knew I should have close the damn computer when I pushed the last full stop, we missed a penalty, S**T.

Only good thing to come out of the game was that I, quite shamelessly, bet on Sunderland to win

Admitting that on here is probably more risky than the bet.

Nothing is going at all for us at the moment. We get on top in games, and then don’t take our chance to go ahead. No better example than this game where we were awarded a penalty,it’s then saved, and Samuel misses the rebound. That’s then followed up by MacDonald getting a red card straight after. We go from potentially being 1-0 up,to down to ten men and then the momentum goes to Sunderland.5 straight defeats, and we really need to get something at Crewe.
Noircat Premier League Champion 2007,and 2014.Noircat FA Cup (Runner Up 2014).Promoted to the Premier League (Runner Up 2017,and 2020 in the Championship).
