Postby Garawa » Sat Aug 11, 2018 8:29 pm

- The Gills start their League Cup campaign on the road for the 5th consecutive season and for the 13th season out of 18. Last season's loss at Reading stopped a run of progressing from 4 successive away first round ties.
- The Gills begin their 59th season in the League Cup and are playing their 88th first round match. They have won 38 and lost 37 of them.
- Away League Cup first round ties against higher league opposition have proved difficult for the Gills who have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 14 previously.
- Millwall lead the wins by some margin - 50 to the Gills 27. There have only been 22 draws. The last meeting in this competition saw a 2-1 home win for Millwall in August 2006.
- The Gills have lost 2-1 in both their last 2 visits to Millwall. The game before saw the Gills return home 3-0 winners.
- The Gills have only once played a penalty shootout in the League Cup. The Gills successfully overcame Brighton 5-4 in the 1987/88 season.

We go into a tough game at Millwall in the Cup full of confidence. They had a great season last year, and have plenty of good players to hurt us.It`s a free hit for us as we`re not expected to win.I can see some changes as we have a few knocks.I would like to see Nash start as he had a good pre-season,and this is a game he could get a chance in.Hanlan and Nash upfront to start with would be exciting.Fuller may get a start after not playing in the first two games. We do want to keep the momentum going, but then we want to be fresh for Walsall on thew Saturday.

It was a bit gutting to go out on penalties, but it is a lottery. To keep a clean sheet in 90 minutes against a good Championship side is good going.Losing on penalties shouldn`t affect moral.Walsall away is back to the bread and butter on Saturday.

I think you will find Millwall made about 10 changes from the side that played Middlsboro last weekend ,I think it was a pretty good " B string " starting eleven we played, ( and I may be wrong), but still sad to see the Gills go out in the first round.........GO GILLS.

They had some pretty decent players out there and to keep a clean sheet at the New Den anyway is not bad at all.
