[ 10 Mar 18 ] Portsmouth v GILLS Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Fri Mar 09, 2018 8:40 pm

- Lovell's reign started after a 0-1 defeat to Portsmouth back in October. It took them to 13th, 10 points clear of 23rd placed Gills. A win for the Gills (12th) will take them above Portsmouth (11th), level on points.
- This is only the 32nd meeting with Portsmouth who have won 18 of the meetings compared to the Gills' 6. They have won the last 3 meetings at Fratton Park and 7 of the last 8.
- Portsmouth's win at Priestfield earlier in the season was the first meeting between the sides in 12 years and was their 4th win out of 5 against the Gills.
- The Gills have never won at Fratton Park and have only managed 3 draws in their 15 visits (and have scored 3 goals in the last 9 visits). Apart from 3-0, 6-1 and 4-1 defeats before 1924, the 11 games since have only seen a goal (at most) settle the match.
- Portsmouth haven't won any of their last 5 home matches after winning 5 home games in a row before them.
- 11 games ago, Portsmouth were 13 points clear of the Gills in 6th (and cuurently sit 3 points ahead). They have won 2 and lost 6 of their last 10 games whereas the Gills have won 5 and lost 2 of their last 10.
- Portsmouth have only allowed the opposition to have 111 shots on target but have conceded 44 goals from them. The 39.6% conversion rate conceded is the highest in League 1.
- After 4 clean sheets in 5 league games, Portsmouth haven't kept another in 13 matches. The Gills have managed 1 clean sheet in their last 12.
- Portsmouth are missing players this afternoon that account for 30 of the club's 42 league goals. 4 of their starting XI have a total of 24 appearances between them.

I will be making the trip to Fratton Park.It will be a 20,000 sell out, with over 1,500 Gills in the away end.Should be a fantastic atmosphere. Both of us have a slight chance of the play off`s still,it would be great if we could get our first win at Fratton Park.

This game has draw written all over it until you realise Portsmouth hardly EVER draw games, only 4 all season compared to Gills 13, and then you see P'rtsmth have only won twice in the last 10 games, and the Gills have only lost twice in the last 10 games and suddenly I feel this is going to be three points for the good guys in Blue. Fast start, keep the pressure on and another BIG AWAY WIN TODAY, GO GILLS.

Come on Gillingham, what the hell are you doing, this first half of football has been disgusting, no shots on or off target in 45 minutes, seems were just trying to foul our way to a point. And as I say that we score, lol, lol, someone seems to have given the players a good ass chewing at the half time show.
Come on you Gills, give us another one.

Great result ,but AGAIN Eaves substituted at the half, will we be looking for a new player to take Sulky Britches place in the summer? The Space telescope went out of his way to praise Eaves although to tell the truth it read more like ass kissing to me.

Apparently the cutoff point for a two match ban for 10 yellows has not passed so we'll see if he gets subbed early again. If not, I think that was possibly the reason as Lovell said there is no issue with him.

It was a game of two half`s.Portsmouth came out of the traps quick, and we looked really off the pace.Probably rustiness after no game for two weeks. The defending for their goal was really poor,we were hesitant when dealing with it.They nearly made it two when they were through on goal, but somehow O`Neill made up many yards to put a last ditch tackle in.That really changed the game as 2-0 would have put our heads down, and it may have been a 3 or 4-0 game.Whatever Lovell said at H/T must have been magic as he brought on Wilkinson for Eaves, and within 3 minutes we were level.A great ball from Hessy, finds Wilkinson who has a great touch, then another, then curls it in the bottom corner.Fantastic scenes from our fans, and you could see Pompey`s heads drop. They did nearly take the lead when a free-kick hit the post, but started knocking simple balls out of play, and giving it away as we kept coming forward.Martin sent us even more mad as his cross/shot beats their keeper.Wilkinson moves his head, but really hard to see if he did get a touch on it.The killer goal came on the 80th minute when Martin hit a shot top corner to send us more mental! Many of their fans started to walk out,and we could then celebrate a fantastic away win.A great day with both the player`s and fans doing us proud.49 points now,and one win for 52.
