[ 22 Feb 18 ] Bury v GILLS Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Thu Feb 22, 2018 5:38 pm

- The Gills edge the wins 23 to Bury's 21 (there have only been 11 draws). The hosts have won 2 of the last 11 meetings.
- Since the 5-4 defeat away at Bury in September 2010, the Gills have won 4 and drawn 2 of the last 6 meetings. They have won on both their last 2 visits but lost the 2 before, conceding 5 and 4 goals in the process.
- Bottom of the table Bury lost their first league match in 6 games away to Blackburn on Monday. The unbeaten run came after sacking their manager following a run of 7 straight league defeats (8 in total) and 8 league games without a goal.
- The Gills have won 7 of their last 11 away games in the league and have won 7 out 13 in the league overall. It has taken Bury 41 games to see 7 wins and they have lost 13 out of 21 league games. The Gills need to go back 40 games to see their last 13 defeats.
- Bury have seen 17 of their 33 league games (and 9 of their 16 at home games) end in a blank sheet (the worst total in the division). As a result they have managed just 13 goals at home (the joint fewest) whilst the Gills have scored 18 away).
- Bury have only converted 16.3% of their shots on target into goals - the lowest total in League 1.
- The last 2 matches have seen Tom Eaves feature against 2 former clubs. He scored 9 goals in 44 games for Bury and Shrewsbury but he has 14 in 36 for the Gills.

15.01 Kick-Off [ 3 - 5 - 2 ]

15.13
GOAL! Bury 1-0 Gillingham: Danns
Bury have taken a lead just 10 times (least in League 1) in their 34 league games. 6 of the previous 9 was the first goal (they won 4 of them and drew 2). Bury had conceded leads 30 times (the most in League 1).

15.26
GOAL! Bury 2-0 Gillingham: Bunn
Bury haven't scored 3 goals in a league match for 21 games. This goal was only their 12th league goal scored in those 21 games since.

15.43
Lovell replaces Tom Eaves in a tactical switch and Ehmer moves into midfield.

15.49 Half-time 2-0 (48:21)
Before today, Bury had led at half-time in 12.1% of their league games (5% lower than any other League 1 side). They won 3 and drew 1 of the 4 games they led and all 3 in home games.

16.05
The second half kicks off.

16.08
Wagstaff replaces Zakuani and Ehmer goes back into defence before blocking a last gasp, point-blank effort on the line.

16.29
GOAL! Bury 1-2 Gillingham: Ogilvie
Ogilvie scores his first goal for the club. He is the 5th defender to score this season and is the 9th goal by a defender.

Typical Gills, only defeat in 13 games has been to the side that was top of the league. The side at the bottom are destroying us and should have had several it seems, mind you, perhaps they are used to playing beach football judging by how much sand / how little grass there is. The strand doesn't really have any to practice on!

BUMS nothing but BUMS, nice dive Holy, your supposed to get the ball not dive over you string bean excuse for a keeper. Think it's probably time to let Lovell go, did he even bother to travel with the team or did he stay home to play pattercake with his grand kids ?? Disgusting display of inept football by the Gills, no motivation even though a win today with Chorlton, Bradford and P'tsmth all loosing could have put us a win away from breaking into the top seven.
I know stats mean nothing according to some people on her but I also know when Bury have 60% of the possession, have 25 shots to Gillinghams 8, the chances of the Bums from Kent winning are pretty dam slim .
Dam you GFC, ruined my day, and it was going so well up until about 10.45 am this morning when the final whistle blew, gone down hill ever since, I was so sure you would put the effort in to win today but you cruised, so dam ,dam, dam.

Yes they had a lot of attempts. Of course it is the quality of the attempts not like the daisy cutter attempts a 4 year old manages that Charlton had when they had 12 on target to our 5. Possession doesn't mean much when I've seen Real Madrid win 3-1 having had the ball for only 22 minutes of the game. More of an issue was that we set up wrong and were out of the game by the time it was rectified.

A surprising result when you look at the table, but as as been said we set up wrong and Bury who still have good players benefited from that.Bury spent plenty on wages on good players, but for some reason they did not click.2-0 down at H/T,we responded but couldn`t find the equaliser.Holy`s late effort from the corner was unlucky not to go in.I`m not going to get carried away by the defeat as 2 defeats in something like 14 games we would all have taken that.March is a tough month, but we have been doing well against Teams that have been performing.

Talk of the "wheels falling off". We may not be winning as many but not losing is all I care about. We are still focused on staying in this division. A few draws and we achieve that and can push on towards that playoffs but not losing is what makes the biggest difference at this stage of the season.

And that sums it up, THIRTY THREE POINTS still on the table and everyone is still talking about we must get to 52 so we can't be relegated, even the Gills players are thinking that way, Wagstaff in his interview instead of talking about how were only 6 or 7 points away from 6th place is talking about we must get the points so we can't be relegated, jjeeezzz you Gills your ten points clear of the drop zone and teams like the Wombles , Fleetwood and Oxford are going down a long long time before the Gills will , time to get rid of this stinky thinking Gillingham and lets concentrate on catching Plymouth.

Just watched back the highlights and we could have been thumped yet, at the same time, drew 2-2!
