[ 5 Mar 16 ] Scunthorpe Utd v GILLS Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Tue Mar 01, 2016 10:08 pm

Since a 4-1 win at Scunthorpe back in November 1999, the Gills have drawn 1 and lost 2 there. Scunthorpe edge the wins 14 - 11 in total.

After losing 5-0 at Blackpool, Scunthorpe have conceded just 4 goals in 7 games.

Utd are unbeaten in 7 in the league and in 5 at home (2 wins). The home run ended a spell of 3 consecutive defeats without scoring 0.

Before today, Scunthorpe had the second best home defence. 7 goals were conceded in those 3 consecutive home defeats but just 6 in the remaining 13.

Scunthorpe have had 6 home blank sheets, the Gills have had 4 in total. Only Millwall and Blackpool have failed to score in more home games.

Scunthorpe have scored the least amount of home goals with 15 from 16 games. Glanford Park has seen the fewest scored in the division - 28.

The Gills are looking to end a winless run on the road that currently sits at 6 games. A 7th in the league would be the first since August 2014.

Another tough game on a poor pitch, but we need to be getting something to stop the rot with three defeats in a row.We know we can always score in a game, but equally we will always concede a goal.If we can be tight on Saturday then we can get something at least. The gap below is getting smaller,so we cannot afford to lose really.

What would be your Team? I would like to see Hessy back in,as he hasn`t really played poorly and we have lost 3 in a row,so might be a good time to come back in.I would like to see Samuel start with Norris as well.

I think Gillingham will line up as follows.......................

----------------------------------Nelson---------------------------------------
Jackson-------------El-Abd---------------------Ehmer------------------Chicksen
---------------------Wright---------------------A.Morris--------------------------
Samuel-------------------------Williams------------------------------B.Dickenson
----------------------------------Norris--------------------------------------------

Subs: G.Morris (GK), Garmston Hessenthaler, Osadebe, McGlashan, List, Donnelly

I don't agree with Adam Chicksen at left back but Justin Edinburgh appears to rate The Brighton & Hove Albion Defender, if Adam Chicksen starts then I hope we see a much better performance from him, I want to see Adam Chicksen put in a good performance and do well for Gillingham, even though I would prefer Bradley Garmston to start at left back, the one change I would make from the team that started on Tuesday Night is Dominic Samuel for Rory Donnelly as Rory Donnelly is having a tough run at the moment and needs to be dropped out of the starting line up, Justin Edinburgh prefers using Elliott List as an impact substitute and Jermaine McGlashan hardly plays so I think Dominic Samuel would be a good option as a right midfielder.

Here's hoping that Gillingham can get back to winning ways by picking up all three points against Scunthorpe United tomorrow - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!!

While Gillingham have been making life difficult for themselves, Scunny have been consolidating their place in Division One for another season with 5 wins out of the last six games. Going to be a tough one for the recent under achieving Gills, putting down an X on the pools coupon for this one, hope we can score early and not have to come from behind again.

Scunthorpe have won 4 out of 7 Chicago and their last 3 were draws against Walsall, Oldham and a 2-1 defeat at Fleetwood so not a great record. Unbeaten in 5 at home though so more trickier.....more likely to win then! Ha ha

Sorry meant to say only lost once in last 7, might not be good in you books but if GFC had done what Scunny have done in the last 7 games, i.e. got 12 points instead of 2 or 3 we would be top of the table today.

It sounded like we robbed a point today! We obviously set out to get a point and stop the losing run.I only remember a Loft shot which was easily saved.Scunthorpe hit the post and had quite a few chances saved by Nelson.I think we will be delighted to escape with a point today.Hopefully we can build on that point against Crewe next week.

Since I got back from being away overseas, all I have read on here is, " I hope we can build on this game". No offence intended, but when do we actually start the building process??
We have Crewe at home, Mr Lidbit, myself and his beloved wife playing in goal could win this game, Mr L could score three, and I could knock in a couple , and that wonderful woman in goal would only let in one at best, and that would have probably been off side anyway ,so lets give us three points there.
Then comes Sarfend away ,I would guess at best a point, followed by Walsall at home, who have a good away record , maybe we salvage a point, then Bury away , what another point, so maybe a total of 6 points for the rest of March, so come April we could well find ourselves teetering on the edge of the playoff spots, with the likes of Coventry, Port Vale for the( 546 time ) and Sheffield to come ??
Why do I for some reason keep having nightmares of the Millwall game as being , ..................THE GAME THAT MAKES OR BREAKS OUR SEASON ??

LOl, thank you. I had a few weeks in Shanghai want to know where all the worlds money is, lol, amazing? I was there in the late 80's when people would stare at us walking down the street, come up and touch the hair on your arms, now they just aim cars at you as you try to cross the road, lol.
Nora Batty, you have your own Nora Batty, you lucky lucky guy, lol.
So are we going to make the play off's , got a feeling this is going to be a real nail biter for the next few weeks ?
