[ 25 Jan 20 ] Rochdale v GILLS Match Thread

Postby Garawa » Sat Jan 18, 2020 9:11 pm

- It is incredibly even results-wise between the sides. Both Rochdale and the Gills have won 16 of their meetings and 17 have ended level. Both sides have won 3 of their last 8 meetings.
- Despite the even nature of results between the sides, it has been far from even at Rochdale. The Gills last won there in May 2009 - 4 draws followed then, most recently, 3 defeats (1-4, 0-3, 0-3).
- If league and cup games all scored the same points, the Gills would have dropped 13 points from winning positions this season. Rochdale have dropped a whopping 12 points from their last 9 games, losing 4 games they were winning.
- Rochdale ended a sequence of 8 league losses out of 9 games (which included 5 consecutive defeats) by beating Accrington and Bolton. That mini run was ended last weekend with a loss at Wycombe.
- Rochdale's 2-0 home win over Bolton ended a sequence of 4 home defeats which saw 9 goals conceded. Their 12 home league matches have produced 3 wins and 6 defeats.

15.02 Kick Off [ 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 ]
The Gills line up with new signing John Akinde who is starting only his 9th game this season, his 4th in League 1. He has scored 4 goals in those 8 starts with a further 4 goals coming from 20 substitute appearances.

15.34
GOAL! Rochdale 1-1 Gillingham: Roberts

15.50 Half time 1-1 (48:02)
Rochdale's home league total when leading at half time this season stands at W3, D 1, L1. However, when they were level or behind, their totals are W0, D2, L5.

16.05
The second half kicks off.

16.20
GOAL! Rochdale 1-2 Gillingham: Roberts
Will it be 5 defeats in 10 games after scoring the first goal for Rochdale? The Gills have lost 2 league games after scoring first in the last 3 seasons!

16.29
GOAL! Rochdale 2-2 Gillingham: Dooley

16.33
O'Keefe heads the ball off the goal line.

16.54
Done blasts a 40 yard shot just over the bar after spotting Bonham off his line.

Our recent record at Rochdale is poor.No win I believe since 2009.They’re below us in the table,so hopefully we can keep the unbeaten run going.

How does Rochdale have almost twice as much possession as the Gills, yet we have twice as many shots on target and four times as many corners , do we just kick the pigs bladder up the field and defend letting them kick the ball around to try and find a way through ??

Another game unbeaten, but disappointing not to get the win after taking the lead.Pleasing to see Roberts grabbed two goals,Hopefully more to come.Hopefully we can get the win v Shrewsbury and go into the top half before our mini break.
