After the Argy Bargy fiasco against Croatia today ,Eastender's came on,and all through the show there was a commentator describing what was happening........Garawa walked through the door, and looks at Peter, while Shirley serves Mike a pint at the bar.
OK is this for blind people or just because the people that watch EASTENDERS are to stupid to see what is going on ?

Might just be cultural help for you Americans who , apart from your good self , would not understand an East End Pub . Or the dialect .

HI soton...no I watch it on an Android box,it's live from London, greatest thing ever, I pick up stations live from all over the world. Oh NO it's on again now that the Swiss game has finished Albert Square is where it's set, and this time there is a woman doing the commentary, this is unbelievable, lol.

OK . My wife has told me that there is something called something like " Close Caption " , which is actually for blind people . She suspects that you've probably pressed a button and switched it on .

Hope that helps :-)

Hi gillsfan,
I think you might be getting confused between sub-titles for the hard of hearing,
and closed caption for the blind.
People using closed caption can hear what's going on, what they can't do is see when someone enters or leaves a room.

We don't in the US have anything for the blind on tv, guess they can hear whats going on and the TV companys consider that to be enough, although maybe a ladder, and brail running along the bottom of the set might be an invention to make someone rich.
Closed Caption refers to subtitles of every sound even for falling objects and onomatopoeia's while subtitles refer to only the spoken word.Subtitles are normally used sports bars wheres there to much noise for people to hear the game commentary and I guess for deaf people at home.
On East Enders for example a voice will come on and say Jacks behind the bar pouring a pint while Bob takes off his glasses and cleans them, Jack hands the pint to Bob who puts his glasses back on ,looking at the beer Bob says thats a fine looking pint and he starts to drink.
Then it will change the scene,go say to Bobs house, and the commentator will say ,meanwhile back at Bobs house is wife sits talking to her daughter. Then it stops and you just hear the two characters talking like normal.
This is ONLY on East Enders ,no other program on this channel or any other channel, very strange, lol.

Now now Gillsfan, what is an onomatopoeia, I don't think we have them here in Australia. Even if they have them in America how did you get one. Just thinking, do they do porn films with this closed caption stuff. That would be interesting.
