At least Morrissey's autobiography can't have been ghost-written - only he thinks he is that good. Still he is nice to animals and for a short time was a real influence on British Pop.

Morrissey has had a massive influence on me for 30 years and it never wanes! Superb lyricist, not read anyone better! Love Pete Doherty too, one is his song was our first dance when I got married! Just pleased he is finally off the drugs and sorting himself out! Thats why he is fat in the face now he has replaced heroin with jam doughnuts!

That can't be right Mark, you don't sound like you're depressed. "Girlfriend in a coma", great stuff for a dull winter evening !! I'll admit to liking the Smiths a lot, ergo appreciate Morrissey's originality, but boy does he have a high opinion of himself. Give me David Byrne anytime for lyrics.

No, im not depressed! Girlfriend in a coma was written about a real event that gripped America in the 70's! Not heard David Byrne be called a great lyricist! I suppose it could happen once in a lifetime! Still, that is what music is all about and that is opinions! We all like different things! Currently listening to Hudson Taylor who are 2 brothers from Dublin!

Morrissey far too one-dimensional for me, good but in a very small range of stuff. Godley and Creme, Bowie, guys who could write from ballads to Rock. If you want a great song based on a real life event try Rubber Bullet by 10cc or for sheer lyricism their 'One night in Paris' suite. Saw them do it live at the first Knebworth...
