Spitfire

Postby gillsfan1066 » Wed Jun 10, 2015 12:12 am

Walked into my local liquor store today and the lady was all excited because she had got me six packs of" SPITFIRE, The Bottle of Britain," and although it cost $12, about 8 pounds a six pack I grabbed four , Shepherds Neame made in Faversham, at last ,A REAL BEER.
Well maybe it doesn't travel well, found it to be a bit "gassy", and without much taste. Do you guys drink it warm, as in off the shelf, or put it into the fridge , and what would a six pack cost in the UK??
Did Shepherd Neame make Red Barrel ??

Spitfire is one of my favourites, you have to put it in the fridge and serve it cold.A 6 pack would probably cost about £12 I reckon.

I've never been a fan of Spitfire. I much prefer their Late Red ale but after having Adnams Broadside at The Ship in Conyer that is my new favourite! Really full bodied with a great taste. I shall be going to the Great Dorset Steam Fair at the start of September (will probably be another home game it always is) and they have possibly the largest ale festival combined with a large music festival too. There will be dozens and dozens of new and rare ones to try whilst listening to the bands so I expect a new favourite soon. Can't wait! I love Faversham's hop festival (on the same weekend) but it has a woeful choice of beers.

As for chilling, ales should be room temperature but I much prefer mine from the fridge.

I think the Spitfire is about one step up from Budweiser, bit tasteless really and all bubbles, ( a nice girl if their ever was one,).
Think I like Fosters in the green oil cans more.

Perhaps you ought to get your liquor store to order you some of this , 1066 .

8.7% , quite nice ( had some in a restaurant in Southampton yesterday afternoon ) , and after the third you probably won't care about what it tastes like .

Looks like something you'd get from a legal high shop!

No such thing as good beer in a "tin" but I can empathise with your wish to take in a Kent brewed beer.

Just had several pints of Deuchars (on draft) myself
