Russian provocation

I see in the news today Russian planes have been "escorted" away from British shores and a few weeks ago their bombers flew into British territory from the channel whilst their Submarines traveled through it. Being such a busy shipping lane, any unauthorised use must be incredibly dangerous surely or did they tell us they would use it? What exactly is their game. They seem to be provoking the Scandinavian countries immensely and everyone seems to be getting the silent big bully stalking tactics. Ukraine is suffering badly for it and they seem intent on provoking a war they couldn't possibly defend successfully (if all took offence to their tactics and their current actions are doing just that).

What can they possibly hope to achieve with all of this? Is it to take eyes away from the Ukraine crisis? This must be costing us money each time, I guess at least it acts a better training exercise than any drill could.

Posturing? Pandering to nationalism in times of economic woes like the Arg. Government always going on about the Falklands?
