I think the first record I bought was A Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash. Or rather my dad suggested I bought it. First real buy was Jeepster by T Rex. As for the Wall I remember someone getting stabbed in a pub because he kept playing all of the tracks on the Jukebox! Can't blame the bloke though; just surprised no one had topped themselves first!

First record was ' Poetry in Motion' by Johnny Tillotson, 1960 I think. Posh I have an original Springstein boxed set which can be yours simply by an admission that MK stadium is in Milton Keynes. Unless it's valuable of course.

I'm no Springstein fan but I do have a few things with him on, mostly because he either co-wrote or played on some Bowie tracks.

A very good friend of mine also played Bowie's guitar when he appeared at Friars in Aylesbury. (This same mate also saw the Doors at Isle of Wight and bumped into Hendrix in a service station!)

yes, what a shame they had slightly more talent than we did, however, on the night we got paid more than Bowie. Funny how things turn out.

I reckon your gig at Southend was on the 7th, 8th, or 9th April 1966 Rimshot. Going through my archives, these are the only dates that the Lower Third played where it is listed as 'unknown venue' and I can't find a date for Southend. He was on a tour of southern seaside towns at the time so by process of elimination I think it was one of these days. Given that he only played as David Jones and the Lower Third for seven months (between Manish Boys and changing his name to Bowie) it seems the most likely dates.

Oh dear, have to confess my first single was 'Love grows where my Rosemary goes' and yes, I still have it! Edison Lighthouse, 1970. I went on to book them at Uni when I was Student Union president 10 years later and remember feeling quite starstruck!! First album was 'Relics', Pink Floyd; I remember giggling insanely with a friend after an illicit can of larger to the lyrics of 'Arnold Lane'!
