No more team GB?

It seems like the final nail in the coffin of having a team GB football side in the Olympics has been dealt. The arguments were around losing the identity of each nation. I really don't understand why it's an issue at all. Why can't they just have an agreement that it is for Olympic competition only? I don't think FIFA have any desire to lose these identities. Is this more a case of politics, of the Scots not willing to be seen to side with the English? To think after given them greater affairs over their nation they could be controlling the whole of the UK come May!
