A home nations feast in the Euro Championships finals?

Postby Garawa » Mon Mar 30, 2015 6:19 pm

I can't believe what is happening regarding the home nations sides in these qualifiers so far! England are walking away with group E, Wales top group B, N Ireland are well over-achieving currently second in group F and Scotland & Republic of Ireland still have a good chance in group D! I'm not sure this has ever happened before with some of those sides having more points now then they normally get at the end. Imagine if all of them qualify!

How are The Republic of Ireland a home nation? It always confuses me that they are included.

Well they are not but I included them for added effect ha ha! That said they do always seem to get the same mention, but then so to Gilbraltar this time. I know they aren't part of the commonwealth as such but I suppose we have always has a closeness of some sorts with Ireland.

This looks their best chance of qualifying. Can they all repeat the same results in the second half of the games? Wales look the most likely when they have Bale in their Team.

The additional qualification places seem to have inspired some on the minnow nations in other groups.

Who would of thought that Iceland would be five points clear of The Netherlands, or Slovakia would have five wins out of five and win against Spain, or Austria top of there group which Sweden and Russia are also competing in, or Faroe Islands winning against Greece and San Marino would draw against Estonia ???

England should qualify for Euro 2016 with ease, but you can only beat the teams in-front of you, and the friendlies are competitive enough to give England a reality check of what to expect once we get to the finals, if Wales can beat Belgium and Northern Ireland win against Romania then both of these home nations will be in a commanding position to qualify for Euro 2016.

But I do think that Scotland and The Republic Of Ireland are competing for the third playoff spot in there group as Poland and Germany should end in the top two, but of all the qualification groups I think that Group D is very exciting as there is only three points separating the top four nations, I cannot see Scotland ending second and The Republic Of Ireland ending third, one of these two will miss out.

And I bet we still end up with some big sides not making it after finishing 4th or something crazy like it. Interesting.
