World Cup

Postby gillsfan1066 » Fri Feb 20, 2015 3:59 am

Just heard the World Cup is going to be played in November and December in Qatar hahaha , does that mean that all domestic games in England will be postponed till after the World Cup is over, or just Premiere and Championship games, or until England get knocked out ,does any one know ??
It's a shame because last year in Brazil the games were played in the summer and American soccer only had baseball to compete against sports wise ,and millions of people here watched the US teams games and at least became casual fans.
November/December is right in the middle of the American Football season, ice hockey and basket ball season's, collage football season ,( some collages seat 110,000 and sell out each game) it will set soccer back 10 years which is a real shame, just as the average guy interested in sport was getting interested in the game.

I can't see how it can work. Leagues would need to be postponed and then continued in the summer which then delays the following season as well. Attendances would be WELL down so I presume FIFA would recompense all the clubs left out of pocket???? None of this can be legal. Bids were put in to hold a summer tournament, there would be countries who never bidded on the presumption they couldn't hold a tournament like this and yet, Qatar have it having not fullfilled the criteria. Was England allowed to bid for a winter World Cup? It's utterly wrong and affects thousands of people, all so a place with a population that akin to Faversham's can hold a sporting event. It just can't be viable for long after as the stadia would need to be demolished or left in situ just a mile or two apart from each other with little or no use for them.

There talking about the stadiums are being built to " temporary specifications" ,that will allow for "easy" break down after the World Cup and then moved to the "poor" country's of the world and given as gifts.
Someone go and stop those starving children in Burundi from crying ,tell them to go and sit in the lovely new stadium and wait a few days for some food, and in the mean time make them write thank you letters to the people in Qatar and that nice honest Mr Sepp in Switzerland.

Which therefore makes a mockery of FIFA's decision based on the "legacy" aspect of their bid. What legacy if there would be virtually nothing left after a month of football???? He better not "win" another term in office otherwise he would make Mugabe and co look like charity workers.
