Peter Taylor hailed the impact of goalscoring defender John Egan as Gillingham took one step closer to Wembley.
The quote below is defiantly worth reading.......
Irishman Egan could have played Championship football this season, with the likes of Blackburn in the hunt for his signature, but regular first team football was key to him joining the Gills.
“We knew we wanted him and of course we were just praying that he wanted us,” said Taylor.
“Thankfully for us, he came here to play football and that’s exactly what has happened, so we are all happy.”
John Egan could of quite easily signed for Blackburn Rovers in the summer, but Egan thought he was going to be a squad player at Ewood Park and chose to sign for Gillingham instead as we could offer regular first team football, I still cannot believe that we convinced John Egan to sign for Gillingham ahead of Blackburn Rovers in The Championship, but perhaps Egan deserves a bit of credit for recognising that he wouldn't be playing a lot of football at Blackburn and it was better for his career to drop into League One.
If The Player Of The Season Forms were out now, I would vote John Egan as Gillingham's Player Of The Season, I would also tie John Egan down to a long term contract (like we have done with Jake Hessenthaler and Bradley Dack) but we might have to stay in League One first before we can offer John Egan a long term deal.
