What’s happening?

Postby lidbid46 » Sat Oct 19, 2024 4:45 pm

So my post about being excited by the start of the season just a few weeks ago looks rather silly now! Since then we’ve played four lost four. My question is, what is going on? How can things have changed so dramatically? Is it down to the players or the manager? We were thinking that at last we had a manager who knew what he was doing and who could lead us out of this horrible division, but do we need to wonder about that now? The Gallinson bubble is in danger of bursting and all the momentum seems to have come to a juddering halt. I hope we don’t need to sack yet another management team but it certainly doesn’t seem to be working at the moment!

Before today, our record with last season was identical - 6 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats but the 12th game last season was won so this defeat makes us worse off at the same stage. I think last season it was a case of stop the right hand side and you stop the Gills. Teams have figured out its the same this season. I do feel we have met some of the strongest contenders early as we haven't met a mid-table side yet however we suddenly now look less potent. What worries me is how some of League 2's players with the best figures come to us and look average (Nolan, Nevitt etc). We have 4 decent number 10s who we aren't getting much out of. This side, with Lapslie in the 10 role and Dieng in holding midfield was a replication of the sides under Harris. Even when changing personel a lot, we are trying to fit them into a 4.2.3.1. I do think the better sides have a good front 2 which takes the pressure off so maybe we should try. Jayden Clarke, Gbode and Nolan could all play on the flanks, it would be who best to use centre midfield that would be the issue. We need to try something, we are too predictable.

Whats happening ? Well were on tract to score about 55 goal this season, and miss out on the playoffs on GD because we do not have a 15 or 16 goals a season scorer on the team and we do not have a couple of 10 or 12 goals either, after more than 25% of the season has gone we have managed to score just 14 goals. We have a pretty lousy goal keeper, and we change managers about as often as the weather changes in Gillingham. We have an owner who bought a football team ,where he should probably have bought a baseball teamsomething he grew up with , and why he bought Gillingham FC I can not imagine, unless he likes living in Kent ? He didn't grow up a Gillingham FC fan and he is treating owning the Gills purely as a business, he has no passion in his blood to see the Gills do well, other than the fact he and his other Director his misses will make more money if and when we ever get promoted. I think he dreams of doing a Wrexham, but on a budget, just ask anyone how well that works.
