I guess there wasn't much interest in tonight's game against Crewe, PEOPLE.......PEOPLE......... WE WON, WE WON, THREE count them THREE magic points go to the mighty Gills in what the twin BBC sports correspondents who reported on the match, David Coleman and Kenneth Wolstenholme described as one of the most exciting games they had seen since the 1966 World Cup Final. The match played in front of a rabid crowd estimated to be well over the TWENTY FOUR THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY SEVEN, the grounds capacity, cheered every pass ,corner, free kick the Gills made for the full 90 minutes .
The official 24,247 gate given by new Gills owner Brian Moore didn't include a very attractive Lady seen climbing over the Gillingham End Gate, shortly after the game started ,who once inside the ground waved with great enthusiasm to a certain gentleman dressed in cricket whites in the Sponsors Box ,the crowd gave him a big BOO when he only did the Royal Wave back, but the Lady looked very happy when she was picked up above the crowds head, and body surfered around the entire ground on the crest of a Mexican Wave. Nice undies ma'am.
What a transformation The Gills were from last weekends humiliating 2-7 loss to lowly Oxford , where they managed to have more shots and corners, although there is an official FA investigation into the actual number of corners there were in the game . It seems that although Gillingham had only 30% of the corners somehow the 30% was printed as 80% due to a blob of ink on the number 3 key on the typewriter, making it look like an 8, I am sure that will be corrected before the end of the week.
It seems amazing with only 32% of the possession , and half the number of shots on target that the Gills won this hard fought promotion battle, now 6 points ahead of Manchester City and 8 points ahead of Chelsea, Gillingham look as if there on their way to their first ever Premier League Title, and a place in Europe for the 2067 season.
