Gillingham manager Steve Evans has backed the idea of regionalising the lower leagues.

The chairman of Gills’ divisional rivals Fleetwood Town, Andy Pilley, mentioned the idea this week and it’s one Evans has long been in favour of.

But do you think this is a good idea, or a idea you disagree with ???

Bad idea permanently.

Great idea for next season. I said for a while, finish the season next season and play a regionalised conference next season of 12 teams (ie 2 conferences making up League 1 and 2 making up League 2). 22 games would be played, it would limit travel costs massively, there would be less need for loss-making Tuesday night games and it would allow completion of cup games and an early finish for the Euros. The top 2 of each conference would decide the league title and the bottom 2 (or 1 in League 2's case) would decide relegation etc. As that is not needed now, it is clear the season will be late starting and perhaps the same could be used eg League 1 north, League 1 south etc. Regionalising just for the sake of it is no good as trips up north or shorter than trips to Plymouth and Exeter etc.
