GILLS to the outside world

It seems the Gills have a bit of an influence abroad. Today, an article on Lille's website included a trip to the club for their junior members (unless you speak French, be sure to allow Google to translate the page for you)!

And I was surprised to hear that Argentinian football was founded by a 16 year old from Strood! If it wasn't for him, it is likely the team that was named after him (Newell's Old Boys) might not have been founded or gone on to give some of the most famous of names their debuts - Lionel Messi, Gabriel Batistuta, Mauricio Pochettino, Maxi Rodriguez to name a few.
Fans and officials apparently often make pilgrimages to see the club that their founding father would have likely supported had he not moved to South America. With our 125 years next year, sounds like the perfect celebratory match to me!
