I've had a look back at previous seasons relegated teams and over the last few years it has only been necessary to get to fifty points once. I seem to remember that when we got relegated that horrible day at Wycombe we had fifty or maybe more but that total seems unusual. Sometimes, as few as 46 points are neede to avoid the drop. Someone on another site says that by looking at who has to play who still, 48 points should be safe this year. As you all know I'm sure, we have 42 now. So how many points do we all think will be safe this year? Obviously it would be best to win three more games and get to 51 asap, but it would be interesting to know how few points everyone thinks we could get away with. Who will be right? I'm sticking with 47 relegated, 48 safe.

2 of our last 3 relegation seasons saw us go down with 50. Lower totals for relegation need teams at the top getting large points or sides at the very bottom losing every one. All the time they beat each other they gain extra points but drawing against each other can be disastrous. This season it will be closer between the sides so a higher amount (I think) will be needed however 50 I reckon will do it.

Forget everything that has happened this season, it's now a 10 game season ,with four of those games against teams going full steam in the promotion race, so lets rule out many points from the next two games , maybe a point or two, but with GFC who knows, lol ?
Then we have that last day game against N'thmpton, please footie Gods don't let it go down to that one, so that leaves us games against Rch'dale, Pt'boro, MKD,BR,and Charlton, so by the time we play Rochdale I think all these five teams will be out of the running for promotion, so we could be picking up 8 or 9 points from those games which would give us 51 on the season, so suddenly that Northampton game might not matter, (fingers crossed).
A win in one of these next two games would be fantastic, but even a couple of exciting games with a point from each would not do us any harm, GO GILLS, beat Scunny this weekend and lets get away from the drop zone.

We are either going to get a few and we all look at each confused wondering what all the fuss was about or we somehow manage to get relegated beyond all expectation of staying up and look at each other confused wondering how it happened......again.
Have we ever stayed up with a couple of games spare and by a couple of points? It feels like we only ever seem to be in the promotion race, losing out on a play off spot with a game or three to go, comfortably mid-table or in a relegation battle. I can't recall us looking like we might go down but getting out of it in the last few matches.

In a relegation battle I always look at getting 52 points for safety,as I cannot remember a Team going down with that total.I think Coventry wont get anywhere near 52,or Chesterfield. Then you have Port Vale,Swindon,Oldham,Bury,Shrewsbury,us,Northampton, and MK Dons with two of us going down.I do feel we will be ok in my heart, but I don`t personally see Port Vale getting to 50+,so maybe one spot up for grabs.Really we just need to do our job and win games. The defence is leaky, but our Squad really is not a bottom 4 side when you look at the quality.I can see the 21st side going down on around 48 points.
