Gills terminate the contract of Jamie O'Hara

By mutual consent, Jamie O'Hara is no longer a Gills player siting a foot injury that wasn't progressing. Personally I always felt he was a yard or two off the pace, a few pound heavier than required and I heard on the grapevine that when not selected instead of sitting with the other players he stormed out of the ground and has been selected since. The club says they hope he gets back to the level he was but in truth we surely must have been one of, if not actually, his final clubs. He played a lot last season and at first seemed a great acquisition especially having Gills season ticket holders as parents but it solves a problem of too many midfielders and hopefully frees up salary to pay Franck Nouble that has been training with us!

So what does the statement mean , 'he will be working tirelessly over the next few weeks to regain blah blah blah?' If that was the case, wouldn't we keep him so that when he's ready in a few weeks, he comes back into the plans? As you suggest Gary, there must be more to this than meets the eye. I think it's a shame because he could have been the player we need to bring out the best in everyone else.

I agree. It all seems a bit odd and I don't see any reason why he couldn't have said look, cancel my contract and pay and I'll work towards a pay as you play deal. He won't be earning now so would be no worse off, won't be allowed to sign for another club until January and if fit in 4-6 weeks would bring around the mid-November mark.

His statement appears honest and many wouldn't bother to do it but there's definitely more to it than that.

Agreed. Seems daft from both sides unless something else has happened.

I`m disappointed that the signing has not worked out,as we know O`Hara is a class player at this level. It does feel like there is more than meets the eye with him leaving,as when before would a player leave when on a two year deal because he is out for 6 weeks? Best of luck to him though.

Sounds like coming from a" Big Team" like Fulham, he didn't think he had to work hard to be the best on the pitch, maybe got over weight and lazy ?

I think you're right. Having parents that support the club can also either make you spill blood for the club or make you a bit too laid back about it.

Apparently Jamie is on trial at Millwall now.

Justin Edinburgh hasn't ruled out Jamie O'Hara returning to Gillingham once he has recovered and is back to full fitness in his Pre-Match Press Conference Today.
