Uncomfortable game ahead!

With a thousand or so (rumour) Millwall fans seemingly appearing to have acquired tickets in the home ends, things could get very hairy come tomorrow afternoon. The club have put out the following statement today:

With Sunday’s match against Millwall expected to be a sell-out, Gillingham Football Club would like to remind supporters that the club are relying on everybody adhering to our code of conduct ahead of the fixture.

We would like to remind all fans who have purchased tickets for the League One game (May 8th, 12.30pm kick-off) that they are responsible for both their behaviour and that of those they bring to the game.
All tickets purchased are non-transferable, and the club reserves the right to refuse admission to, or eject from, the ground any person found in possession of a ticket acquired in such fashion.
Furthermore, any individual who has entered any part of the ground designated for a group of supporters to which he or she does not belong will also face ejection.

The transfer of tickets, refused entry to or ejection from the ground is likely lead to further action by the club as all ticket sales are traceable on our customer database to those who purchased them.
With all League One games kicking off at 12.30pm, we advise all supporters to arrive at the ground early and be in their seats by 12.15pm to avoid missing the start of the game.

Finally, supporters are urged not to enter the field of play at any time during Sunday’s game and after the final whistle. As at the end of previous seasons, the squad and management staff will undertake a lap of honour shortly after the match has finished should the pitch be clear to enable them to do so.

Lots of violence all around me in the RE but no evidence of any millwall fans at all. Lads being taken out with blood all over their faces but I talked to someone who was right in the middle of it all and he said that gills 'fans' were fighting amongst themselves! Then millwall scored and the wine and dine Millwall supporters jumped up in the MS where they had been put by Gillingham f c. Mindless gills tried to start trouble by grappling with the police even though they knew they had no chance of getting near the away fans. I get the feeling that if they had got past the police they then would have been confused and not known what to do! I don't think that the trouble I saw was much to do with Millwall; it was more to do with the hype and our idiots feelings they had to prove themselves. I wonder how many are out and about today bragging about their part in the great Battle of the Rainham End? Many more than were actually involved I wouldn't mind betting! Seriously though, to see the young boy who has sat in front of me all season with his dad in tears and begging to go home twenty minutes before the end was very sad. I wonder if he'll want to return next season?

To be honest, even if he had gone all season, I wouldn't have taken my boy to that game. I guess this is Millwall's problem, their reputation precedes them and even if they don't cause any trouble, when you have a large crowd with a massive outcome for both sides, that reputation could be enough to set off a host of other problems. I guess the only way you could avoid it would be to ensure a greater number are season ticket holders so that big 1 match mentality is negated. I have never seen so many "fans" trying to get tickets on the black market when the opportunity was plentiful in the run up. I saw several tweets from the club on Friday saying they have until 1pm on Saturday to get their tickets. No real answer to this one....apart from make it a season ticket holder only game!
