Thoughts on Doug Loft?

As captain he has a duty to lead but I'm not going to hold his red card against him as any player (including Dack) will probably have a game that ends prematurely via a red card. However Loft came with praise from Port Vale fans but really hasn't fitted in all that well. Of all players he is the one looking more and more out of his depth and I thought he was going to relish the chance being local. I'd love to know how people see him as a player and why, if at all, he hasn't hit the heights others have.

I am beginning to think he is a liability and I don't often call for players to be dropped but he has some very negative stats this season:

- He has won 4 of the 8 home games he has played in but the Gills have won all 5 of those he has missed.
- He hasn't won any away games, losing 5 of the 7, but he has missed all 4 of the games the Gills won away from home.
- The Gills have won 26.7% of the games he has featured in (15 games) but 81.8% of those he has missed (11 games).

Have rarely seen him contribute much over 90 minutes; just occasional glimpses but not enough to be worthy of a place let alone captain.

He is slow across the ground, gives the ball away a lot in dangerous areas, plays too many negative balls, doesn't chase down after losing possession, with our tendency to operate with a narrow midfield, it needs the players to work and run very hard to keep midfield solid.
